May Pang, world renown confidant to John Lennon, has been in the public eye for over three decades.
May’s career in the music industry spans over 25 years, starting with Allen Klein’s company “Abkco Industries”, a firm which managed the Beatles Apple Corps. Ltd and the Rolling Stones. In 1970, she was selected by John Lennon and Yoko Ono to serve as their assistant in the United States. Her responsibilities encompassed liasion with record companies, and press as well as all other activities surrounding the lives of the Lennons. May also played a key role in the production of records by John, Yoko and Harry Nilsson. In 1974, she received a gold album for John Lennon’s LP, “Walls and Bridges” which represented John’s first record to reach number one in both the singles and album position.
In the late 1970′s May continued her involvement in the music industry at Island Records where she coordinated all activities related to the release of albums by Robert Palmer, Third World, Bob Marley and the Wailers.
May became one of the leading professional managers of the music publishing industry during the early 1980′s while at United Artists Music. Working with several unknown songwriters, she was successful in obtaining coverage for them by such artists as Diana Ross. Judas Priest, The Four Tops, Ullanda McCullough, and Air Supply.
During this period, determined to set the record straight about her relationship with John Lennon, Warner Books published “Loving John” in 1983, a book which detailed her liaison and working association with the late Beatle as well as his relationships with Paul, Ringo, George and his son, Julian;
During the last two decades, she has appeared in every major news publication worldwide, and has been a guest on such national US TV shows as Howard Stern Show, Entertainment Tonight, P.M. Magazine, Good Morning America, Thicke of the Night, Current Affair, Geraldo and Joan Rivers to name a few.
In the late 1980′s May emerges as one of the few individuals who can provide insight into John Lennon as well as an understanding and perspective on the resurgence of the Beatles popularity. Her book was republished in 1992 in paperback under a new title, “John Lennon: The Lost Weekend, Living, Loving and Making Rock’n’Roll.”
With the release of her latest book on St. Martins Press, “INSTAMATIC KARMA: PHOTOGRAPHS OF JOHN LENNON,” she also has put together a gallery showing of 9 of her works.
Currently, she has designed a unique collection of stainless steel Feng Shui Jewelry and furniture.
Her new webzine site (May Pang’s AMIN) is now a big priority to spread the word of this Pan Asian movement to the non-Asian community.
