img_2186The day was May 23, 2009. The place, Irving Plaza in New York City. The event was the Map the Soul Tour for Epik High. The line to enter the venue had wrapped around the block with many excited fans all of which were anxious to see Epik High. As everyone took their first steps into Irving Plaza, we all had a feeling the performance was going to be hot. Then we all realized that the air conditioning wasn't working.
All jokes aside, we all knew that Epik High would put on a fantastic performance with the help of Kero One, Dumbfounded, Far East Movement, MYK, DJ Tukutz, Beatbox DG, and more. The crowd was packed and the performers were pumped. Kero One put on his soulful performance accompanied by his piano playing, his guitarist, and his back-up singer. As Kero One left the stage, the mood suddenly changed as the fast-paced electronic beats began. Three astronauts emerged from the side of the stage. Feeling even hotter just watching them, Far East Movement stripped their space gear one by one. They then proceeded to give the audience gifts of red sneakers. They performed three songs, one being their popular song "Girls on the Dance Floor."
By this point, the audience was excited and ready for more. As the time drew near for the main performance to come on stage, Beatbox DG and DJimg_1850 Tukutz collaborated for an awesome performance. As the performance continued, Epik High's Tablo and Mithra Jin and collaborator MYK arrived on stage. Their presence on stage created a loud roar from the audience as a sea of red glow-sticks moved side to side. Epik High performed many of their song such as "Fly," "Map the Soul," "One," "Fan," and "Top Gun" making the new and old fans unite and enjoy the performance together. Over the sweltering heat, Epik High triumphed in giving a powerful and inviting performance. Just earlier this year, Epik High had gone independent, straying from their previous record label Woolim Entertainment. Promoting and recording their newest album Map the Soul all on their own, these boys have come a long way. I know I will be looking forward to the end of the year to hear a new album by Epik High. I hope everyone else is excited!
