On June 12, 2010 South Korea won their first initial appearance FIFA World Cup game 2-0 against Greece.  Thousands of supporters dressed in red jerseys crowded the streets in high-spirited celebration, but thousands more headed to the bedroom.  After the South Korean team’s huge victory against the 2004 European champions, the citizens of South Korea also ‘rose to the occasion’ resulting in a 500% increase in condom sales.

I was a little taken aback by this win. Greece isn’t a strong side, but neither is S. Korea so if anything I was expecting a tie. Unfortunately, S.Korea lost to Argentina 4:1 is pretty dangerous to them making it out of group play.

But the good news is, Greece beat Nigeria 2-1, which means Korea still has a healthy shot at the round of 16. All they have to do is beat Nigeria, which I’m fairly sure they can do, after watching them against Greece. And to be honest, their whole goal this World Cup was to make it to the round of 16, so a think as long as that happens, Koreans will welcome them home with cheers. However, it would be nice for them to continue. The festive atmosphere has definitely taken hold of Seoul! Especially in my area. ^_^

The Argentina game was definitely a blow. They played so well at the beginning of the second half, but then it was almost as if they just gave up. My co-workers and I were screaming at the TV during that match… But, I have a feeling they can make it happen on Tuesday! (Er, actually… early Wednesday Korea time…) 대한민국!
