But I cannot stand people blowing this out of proportion. In response to the last post I just have to say: 1. Avatar: The Last Airbender is NOT an Asian animated series. It is an American series. 2. Race does not define culture and likewise culture does not define race. I do not deny that the two are connected, however, they do not DEFINE one another. 3. IT'S A CARTOON PEOPLE! A good cartoon, but a cartoon none the less. Everyone is getting worked up on this movie because "he's not Asian," or "he's white." I realize that some may not agree with what I have to say and I'll admit when rumors that the movie was being made first circulated I was skeptic, but you have to admit, they've made SOME progress. Zuko was going to be played by Jesse McCartney for crying out loud! Aang and Katara taught us that you have too look past what a person is: can't you do that? (And I'd just like to add that I am in no way saying that the people they cast will do a kick-ass job and prove everyone wrong. In fact, I'm pretty much going in there thinking that most of the leads will suck, but that's not 'cause they're white--that's 'cause they can't ACT. Where's actbending.com? Besides, all of this will be moot once M. Night gives us his twist a la Ember Island Players: Phoenix King Ozai WINS!) I too am a avid Avatar fan.
