2009 were known for a great number of things in the K-Pop world: style, the rise of auto-tune, and... bloody fan letters?!
Yes, the bloody fan letter trend has taken toll and unfortunately has not died down. If you're wondering what is going on, in 2009, fans decided to show their love for their love in a different way. Normally, fans who have favor for an idol would give them flowers, gifts of their favorite things, dolls, food, etc. Not this time, now to show their "love," they would write letter in their own blood. Stars such as 2PM's Taecyeon and MBLAQ's Lee Joon were the first to receive such letters last year.
The Wonder Girls were the first idols of 2010 to get a bloody fan letter. The fan took pictures of herself slitting her wrists and writing "Wonder Girls, please come back"
"I did this for my Idol group, you other fans did nothing compared to me." The fan stated.
Netizens attacked the fan by saying that the act was "crazy" and asked "why would someone do something like that?"
Although, this trend is 'popular' amongst fan, an anonymous idol member had something to say about it.
"Please don't give us presents. We are happy when they come, but it's sort of a burden. What would be better is a letter filled with your sincerity."
In other words, don't hurt yourself to show you love your idol, a letter of true sincerity is enough.
