Head of JYP Says to Respect Jaebum’s Decision

Posted by Emma Kalka On September - 10 - 2009

ParkJaebum2In a recent letter posted on the JYP Entertainment website, Park Jin-young, the head of JYP, urges all fans of the so-called “disgraced” Jaebum to respect his decision to leave 2PM and return to the US. [hidepost]
Saying that his decision was “not a surprise” to those who knew he was “such a guy,” Park went on to say that the former leader of the group was a sort of “delinquent boy” when he first came to Korea, however he was not a wicked boy though not always well-behaved.
Park asked fans to let the Korean-American transplant to take enough time and move on.
"I'm aware of not only the public anger but also the disappointment of his fans. What matters now is not Jaebum as the 2PM leader but Jaebum as a young man,'' Park said in the letter. "It is very important for him to take a look at himself and repent. As I did, I hope you will respect his decision.''
In a complete 180 from just days before, fans have been flooding JYP with their anger over Park’s decision to let Jaebum go. Only on last Saturday, these same fans were calling for the poor boy to return to the US after comments he made on a friend’s Myspace page nearly four years ago were made public.
The comments were evidence of his early frustration at being supplanted from the US into a country completely unfamiliar to him. He was only a freshman in high school and an understudy in JYP at the time.
“I didn’t know much about Korea nor the language and the food was different,” the 22-year-old said in a public apology released on Saturday, hoping this would appease fans after he said that Korea was gay and he hated Koreans. Both of which are common first reactions to foreigners who enter into a new culture completely different from their own. Especially so if they are teenagers, which are always turbulent years.
This led to an out pour of anger, disappointment and betrayal from his “so-called” fans who said they couldn’t believe such a popular and successful star would say such things about their country. After making a public apology, Jaebum shocked many by announcing he would leave 2PM and Korea to return to Seattle, Washington.
His explanation was that he had disappointed not only his fans, but his group mate’s as well, by failing them as a leader and “hyung” or big brother.
However, some fans maintained their support by following him to Incheon International Airport outside of Seoul, waving signs begging him not to go. But the young singer’s mind was made up, as he went through the security gate and boarded a plane to Washington.
Many of Jaebum’s foreign fans have been pouring support online, criticizing Korean fans for their harsh treatment of what was apparently harmless comments from a teenage boy out of his element. Sadly, it doesn’t look like this support will bring him back to Korea or 2PM anytime soon.
Good luck on your future endeavors, Jaebum. Hopefully, the psychos- I mean, Korean fans will finally learn from their mistakes and start treating celebrities better…[/hidepost]

I know, it is really sad. I hope things work out well for him. JYP pretty much ruined his life by kicking him out. (Which, don't let the media fool you. Everyone in Korea knows he didn't choose to leave...) You should have read how the Korean newspapers translated his comments... it was horrible...
