[hidepost] Everytime I play these games, I feel like the apprentice since I learn so many new things! Professor Layton does it again and this time he solves the mystery behind the Elysian Box in Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (レイトン教授と悪魔の箱)! The game was recently released on the Nintendo DS and I rushed to buy my very own copy. I must say that I was infatuated with it as soon as I turned on the game.
The adventure begins as we cut to an animation scene of Professor Layton and Luke on the Molentary Express, a high-class train that is making it’s way to an unknown destination. This all began with a strange letter from the Professor Layton’s mentor, Dr. Schrader. He has located the Elysian Box that is rumored to kill whoever opens it. If anything should happen to him, he requests that Professor Layton carries out what he has started. Professor Layton and Luke rush to Dr. Schrader’s apartment (thanks to a series of puzzles) and finds him dead on the floor. The only clue they have to the Elysian Box is a train ticket to the Molentary Express.
The game is a relatively short game but if you’re terrible with puzzles, you’ll be playing for a while. Since I had some time on my hands, I managed to beat the game in 10 hours total yet I did not find and complete all of the puzzles. The storyline is a fascinating one yet has many strange plot twists that will keep you guessing throughout the whole game. Although the puzzles become frustrating, the plot and the animation scenes are more than enough to keep you playing.
