Attack of the Girl Groups

girlgroupsWhat is this madness? All of the sudden, girl groups are popping up left and right! I'm waiting for more boy bands! [hidepost]
This year, 2NE1 flaunted their amazing skills as they won numerous awards for their self-titled album. They even plan on promoting the whole album! I guess YG Entertainment is making the most out of this success.
SM Entertainment also dropped his new girl group f(x)! Their newest single "LA chA TA" has become the talk among many people. Band member Amber has caused a lot of stir due to her tomboy-ish appearance. Many people believed she was a man! Fortunately for her, she does have excellent rapping skill and doesn't fail to please. All of the band members have their own talent and show this through their performances.
This year, we've also seen the debut of girl group After School. Debuting early this year with their digital single "Ah," these girls have shown that they aren't just another girl group. They've done collaborations with singer Son Dambi. They even added another member to the band making the the group a six-member girl group. They've performed hits such as "Diva" and "Dream Girl," a cover of Morning Musume's song "Love Machine."
T-ara, a six-member girl group under Core Contents Media, put their three year training to use and released their song "A Good Person," which was used in the Korean drama Cinderella Man. Even though these ladies have been so successful, there were creative differences among members so members Ji-ae and Ji-weon left. Since then, the group has released songs such as "Geojitmal," and "Wanna Play."
Cube Entertainment also joined the bandwagon and released girl group 4Minute. Many people may recognize the rapper, Hyuna, as the former member to the Wonder Girls. This time, she's back and better than before. 4Minute debuted with their song "Hot Issue," which become and instant hit. In August, the band released their first album "For Muzik." The album started to even rival G-Dragons highly anticipated album "Heartbreaker." These girls show that it's more than just looks.
On top of the newly debuted girl groups, there are even newer ones coming out. New girl group, Secret, will debut through a reality show broadcast through Mnet starting September 21st. Shortly after, YG Entertainment has announced their newest group Lady Collection. This will be a ballad group comprised of three members, one being Jieun who had debuted two years ago.
And of course we can't forget the success of the already established girl groups like KARA, the Wonder Girls, Brown Eyed Girls, and Girls Generation. These groups never fail to entertain and always end up on top.
The terrible part about all of this? This is only tackling South Korea! All we can do is stay tuned for more and hope that these new girls groups have talent instead of all talk no show.
