Reported earlier, Korean actor Kwon Sang Woo was in talks of becoming the new Kato in the upcoming movie, The Green Hornet. Columbia Pictures has officially announced that Taiwanese singer, Jay Chou, has been chosen to become the new Kato. The role was originally for Stephen Chow but due to creative differences, he dropped the role.
Michael Gondry, the director of the film, stated, “Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog! When I filmed him next to Seth, they had such great chemistry, and I knew the movie will be great.”
Jay Chou himself also stated, “It’s an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee. I won’t try to be Bruce Lee’s Kato – I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part. Of course, it’s a dream role, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.” Jay Chou will be starring next to stars Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz, and Nicholas Cage.
Although I’m upset for Kwon Sang Woo, I love Jay Chou. I’m excited to see his portrayal of Kato in the movie. This is a big step for Asians in America. I’m proud of him!

Jay Chou sounds promising as Kato! I look forward to it. Poor Sang-woo, I’m sure there will be other roles. ^_^
