true_tears_reviewYesterday, July 21, 2009, Bandai Entertainment released the English subtitle only True Tears box set in the United States. It is a 13 episode long romantic and dramatic TV anime series that was released in Japan in 2008. [hidepost]
The series revolves around high school student and talented artist Shinichiro Nakagami. He lives with his family as well as fellow high school student Hiromi Yuasa who moved in with the Nakagami family after her father’s death. While Hiromi is a popular, athletic, and happy girl at school, around Shinichiro she acts cold and distant. Shinichiro often comments on how he misses her smile.

Although I was initially wary to watch another coming of age teen high school romance drama, Drama, DRAMA anime, I ended up really enjoying this series. The voice acting was done very well, and the calm and controlled tone of the actors’ voices gave a more realistic tone to the series. The music in True Tears was beautiful and appropriate throughout all thirteen episodes. It added the correct emotion to each scene, and is now taking up a nice little chunk on my iPod. I also really enjoyed the ending to this series. It is rare that a final episode will leave you feeling complete and satisfied, but the ending to True Tears just felt right.
